Overview
RefScale helps you measure objects in photos and use optional AI image tools. We collect only the data needed to run the app, process purchases, provide AI jobs, keep the service secure, and support users. We do not sell your personal data and we do not use your data for third-party advertising or tracking.
Information We Collect
- Account data - your RefScale user ID and device-backed session information used to provide the app without requiring registration.
- Measurement data - measurement records, reference-object settings, app plan, usage counts, timestamps, and related app data needed to save and restore your work.
- Photos and AI inputs - photos, prompts, and generated results that you choose to send for AI Extend. Photos used only for local measurement are not uploaded for AI processing unless you start an AI job. Uploaded photos and AI inputs may be used for app functionality and limited operational analytics, such as job status, quality review, failure investigation, abuse prevention, and reliability monitoring.
- Purchase data - App Store product IDs, transaction IDs, original purchase IDs, subscription status, purchase history, credit balances, and credit ledger records. Apple processes payment details; RefScale does not receive your full payment card information.
- Identifiers and device data - RefScale user ID, device ID, app version, device and operating system information, push notification tokens if enabled, server request metadata, and logs used for app functionality, security, and troubleshooting.
- Diagnostic data - MetricKit crash, hang, CPU exception, and disk-write exception reports, including app version, operating system version, device model, diagnostic payloads, timestamps, and related metadata. These reports are used for reliability, debugging, security, and abuse investigation.
- Coarse location - approximate country, region, or city-level location that may be inferred from network metadata or App Store storefront information. RefScale does not collect precise GPS location.
- Usage data - product interaction data such as app launches, feature usage, measurement counts, purchase and restore events, AI job status, and similar activity needed for app functionality, analytics, reliability, and abuse prevention.
- Support data - information you include when contacting support, including your email address and message contents.
RefScale does not request or use your name or email address for registration or sign-in. Contact details are received only when you choose to contact support.
The App Store privacy label for RefScale may list these data types as linked to your identity: Photos or Videos, Other User Content, Purchase History, Device ID, User ID, Product Interaction, Coarse Location, Crash Data, Performance Data, and Other Diagnostic Data.

RefScale does not use these data types for third-party advertising, developer advertising or marketing, product personalization, or tracking.
How We Use Your Data
- To create and maintain your device-backed RefScale session, measurements, subscription, entitlements, and AI credit balance.
- To process AI job requests, deliver generated results, charge or refund AI credits, and show job status.
- To verify App Store purchases, restore subscriptions, prevent duplicate grants, handle refunds, and detect fraud or abuse.
- To send service notifications, such as AI job completion or failure notices, if you enable notifications.
- To understand product interaction at an account or device level, debug issues, analyze crashes and hangs, keep the service secure, improve app reliability, and respond to support requests.
Usage Analytics
RefScale uses Google Firebase Analytics to collect app interaction events, such as screens viewed, onboarding completion, measurements created or opened, and purchase-button taps. We do not send photos, prompts, measurement content, contact details, or RefScale user IDs to Firebase Analytics. Firebase assigns an app-instance identifier and may collect device, app, and approximate-location metadata as described by Google. We disable advertising storage, ad personalization, IDFA support, IDFV collection, and automatic screen reporting.
Analytics defaults to off in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and selected European territories. It defaults to on in other recognized countries and remains unavailable while we cannot determine the request country. You can enable or disable it at any time in Profile > Account & Data once the country is known. Turning it off stops future collection and resets local Analytics data; it does not remove aggregated reports already produced.
Photos and AI Processing
RefScale requests access only to photos you select. Measurement work can be done on device. When you use an AI feature, the selected image, mask, prompt, and related job data are uploaded to RefScale and may be sent to an AI processing provider so the requested result can be generated. Images uploaded for AI processing are automatically deleted from RefScale storage within 24 hours after the job completes. AI providers may process data according to their own service terms and data protection commitments.
We do not use uploaded photos or videos for advertising, tracking, or selling user profiles.
Data Storage and Retention
Your data is stored on servers located in the European Union. Account, purchase, subscription, credit, ledger, measurement-usage, diagnostic, security, and accounting records are retained while your account is active and as needed for service operation, accounting, dispute handling, fraud prevention, reliability, and legal compliance. Local measurements and images stored on your device remain there until you delete them, delete your account or guest data in the app, or remove the app. Operational logs and diagnostic reports are kept for a limited time needed for security, debugging, and reliability.
Account and Data Deletion
You can delete your account or guest data in the app from Profile > Account & Data. You may also contact [email protected] for help.
When deletion is completed, RefScale deletes or de-identifies account profile data, clears active sessions and push notification devices, deletes AI job history and generated AI content associated with the account, and the app removes local measurement data from that device. For guest accounts, deletion removes the guest profile and associated local data from that device.
Some records may be retained where required or reasonably necessary, including purchase history, subscription records, credit balances and ledgers, free-allowance measurement counts, diagnostic reports, security logs, abuse-prevention records, accounting records, legal records, and deletion audit records. App Store subscriptions are managed by Apple and may continue after deleting your RefScale account unless you cancel them through Apple subscription settings.
Third-Party Services
RefScale shares data only with service providers needed to operate the app. These providers are expected to protect user data consistently with this policy and applicable law.
- Apple - App Store purchases, subscription management, refunds, and push notification delivery.
- AI image processing providers - for optional AI image features.
- Cloud infrastructure providers - for hosting, storage, security, and service operations.
- Google Firebase Analytics - for app usage analytics in recognized countries where collection is enabled under the regional policy described above.
No Sale or Tracking
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with data brokers, and we do not link your RefScale activity with third-party data for targeted advertising or advertising measurement.
Your Rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account data in the app or by contacting [email protected]. You can also disable push notifications in iOS Settings and control photo access through iOS privacy settings. When you request deletion, we will delete or de-identify account data that is no longer needed, but we may retain purchase, subscription, credit, ledger, measurement-usage, diagnostic, security, accounting, and legal records where required or reasonably necessary.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect user data. No system is perfectly secure, so please contact us immediately if you believe your account or data has been compromised.
Children
RefScale is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
International Transfers
RefScale and its providers may process data in countries other than where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy as RefScale changes. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users, such as updating this page or providing in-app notice.
